Rijeki Airport
Description:
Rijeki Airport is located in the city of Rijeka on the Croatian island of Krk. The airport is connected to the city by the Krk Bridge.
The largest passenger traffic of the airport falls on the summer season, when tourists who use the services of inexpensive European airlines fly to the northern coast of Croatia. As of 2006, passenger traffic at the airport was 210,000 people.
On May 23, 1971, a plane crash occurred on the approach to Rijeka airport: the Tupolev Tu-134A Aviogenex plane crashed due to a rough landing in bad weather conditions. Only 5 people survived, 78 people died. Among the dead was the famous Croatian poet Josip Pupacic with his wife and daughter.
