Varaždin

Varazdin

Description:

Far, far away behind seven hills in a beautiful city lived angels.

It's a lie, it's a hint. Varazdin is really called the city of angels. They're everywhere. In the architecture of old mansions, on the altars of churches, in paintings and in the smiles of citizens. This old town has a magnificent history. The old town, surrounded by a double moat, keeps the secrets of its owners. The old town hall, built in the 15th century, is considered the oldest in Eastern Europe. For a short period of its history, Varazdin was the capital of Croatia. The cathedral with its majestic altar and stunning acoustics every year in September becomes the scene for evenings of Baroque music. The free royal city was inhabited by artisans. And now the chimeras are showing us their houses. And in the square of ancient crafts we can see them firsthand. Not far from the Old Town there is an ancient cemetery, which is more like a park with flowers, green alleys, sculptures. It was the architect’s plan to turn a place of eternal peace into a cozy park, where it will be pleasant to be both alive and departed to another world. In ancient mansions there are museums: old and new masters, an insect museum with a beautiful collection of butterflies, a museum of angels. After thanking the angels for the quiet and invisible escort through the city, we return to Zagreb. But on the way, I highly recommend staying in the small town of Lepoglava. The masters here live unsurpassed. And they weave fabulous lace, known throughout Europe. Agate is extracted from the mine (the only one in Croatia). Local craftsmen make wonderful jewelry from this semi-precious stone. Painful work. Soon the fairy tale affects, but it is not soon done. We gotta go. Another story!
