Monument to August Shenoa

Corner of Vlaska and J. Branjuga street, Zagreb, Croatia

Description:

August Chenoa is a famous Croatian writer, poet and playwright, the author of the patriotic song “Zivila Hrvatska”.

August Shenoa was born in Zagreb, in 1838, on Vlaška Street. The street starts from the walls of the Cathedral and stretches into the eastern part of the city. At the end of the street there is a monument to the writer.

The sculpture was made by architect Maria Uevich-Galetovich. Imagine, in the middle of the square there is a poster pole - a tube, on which a man relies. Looks realistic - dressed in a cloak, his posture is natural.

Tumba is also symbolic - it is marked with terms from the works of the author, engraved posters and posters of those years.

On holidays, the sculpture of Augustus is decorated with scarves and hats.
