Galtaji Temple Complex

Jaipur, Rajasthan, India

Description:

Galtaji is famous for its ancient temples, built of unusual pink sandstone. But his sacred status he has since ancient times owed healing springs that fill the temple pools.

According to legend, these places once suffered from water scarcity. The sage Galva prayed for hundreds of years, and the deities were merciful and blessed the area with springs. People in gratitude to Galva built a temple to always remember his great merits. The walls of the temple are densely decorated with carvings and paintings. There are many plots - to consider them is not enough for a day, and they do not come here for this.

The main purpose of the pilgrimage is to plunge into the waters of holy springs. And before there were several swimming pools for washing, but now only two. One of them is for monkeys (there are more than five thousand of them), and they really swim in it and dive amusingly. The second pool with a waterfall is used by pilgrims.

Galtaji is sometimes called the "Monkey Palace" - macaques here are the real owners. They behave quite peacefully, but it is still worth remembering that these are wild animals, that this is their territory, so you should not enclose them in your arms and try to establish friendly relations.
