Cochin for 1 day with a Russian-speaking guide (special offer for cruise passengers)
Description:
Cochin is one of the most stylish cities in India, where Christians, Jews, Muslims and Hindus live in peace and harmony. It welcomes guests with a beautiful gate to the Malabar coast and serves as a gateway to the balanced life of Kerala. This city is the perfect place to start exploring India.
During our tour we will visit two historical sites - Fort Kochi and Mattancheri, which are located on both sides of the strait connecting the bay-lake with the Arabian Sea. In the Mattancherry area, we will visit the Mattancherry Palace or, as it is also called, the Dutch Palace, donated by Raja Cochin by the Portuguese, walk along the streets of the Jewish quarter (Jew town), in the antique shops of which you can walk, like in an archaeological museum, without buying anything, we will try to find the oldest synagogue in India open.
Moving to Fort Kochi, we will walk through the old streets built up during the Portuguese rule, but perfectly preserved to this day, visit the oldest Catholic Church of St. Francis, in which Vasco da Gama himself was buried, but there are still services. And, of course, we won’t miss one of the city’s hallmarks – Chinese fishing nets. We will visit the old laundries of Dobi Khan, where they still wash clothes in the old way.
If the tour starts early in the morning, we will visit the Shiva and Hanuman Temples and have a rare occasion to get inside a Hindu temple in Kerala.
