The Ancient City of Amlapur

Amlapura, Jalan Ahmad Yani, Karangasem, Indonesia

Description:

Almapura, located on the eastern shore of the island of Bali, was in the past the capital of the Kingdom of Karangazem. This kingdom was founded at the end of the XVII century, and at the beginning of the XIX century became the strongest state in Bali. With the arrival of the colonizers, Karangazem did not resist, so the buildings of Almapur were preserved intact.

Tourists can see only one palace inside - Puri Agung, built in 1900, formerly the residence of the king. Several buildings are located in the courtyard, which is very pleasant to walk through. Among other buildings, it is worth noting the pavilion Bale London, inside which furniture with the coat of arms of the British kings is the main building of Puri Agung Maskerdam (distorted by Amsterdam) Campang Pavilion near the picturesque reservoir Pemandesan Pavilion, where members of the royal family were cremated.
