Serangan Turtle Island
Serangan, Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia
Description:
Serangan Island, located just south of Bali, is equally loved by surfers and sea turtles. A few years ago, the island was artificially connected to a large land, and due to mounds, its area grew to 500 hectares. The climate on the island is very harsh and the landscapes are deserted.
In addition to the fact that the island of Serangan is a kind of turtle reserve (here in special ponds bred large green sea turtles), there are other attractions.
In the southwestern part of the island, right on the beach is the sacred building Pura Sakenan, erected in the XVI century. Once a year, when the Day of Prosperity is celebrated, processions of believers come here from all over Bali, and celebrations with food are held in the vicinity of the temple. At the eastern end of the island are two more ancient temples: Pura Kemara and Gedong Kemara, whose architecture is very original. In a small village with its own mosque and cemetery lives one of the few Muslim communities of Bali, which is quite peaceful with Hindu neighbors.
On the eastern coast of the Serangan, surf lovers, and local coral reefs literally teem with colorful schools of colorful fish.
