Goa Lava Caves (bats)
Jalan Raya Goa Lawah, Dawan, Bali, Indonesia
Description:
Goa Lava Caves is an ancient Shivaite sanctuary. This is a whole system of caves that go into the depths of the mountain. Thousands of bats live in caves that hang down their heads under their vaults.
The most amazing sight is when flocks of bats with a terrible squeak fly away when people approach. Around the temple of Goa Lava and the Cave of Bats hovers a curious legend that says that the neighbor of the bats in the sacred cave was a giant-sized dragon named the Great Bazuka. In the early 20th century, soldiers from the Netherlands decided to visit the cave, and at the sight of the dragon opened fire on him with guns. But the soldiers did not know that in any case you can not hurt the dragons, and this caused the anger of the local residents who wanted to stone them to death. The Dutch fled, but at night their house was illuminated by a bright light and no one has seen them since. Another legend says that from the Bat Cave to the main Balinese temple of Besakih there is an underground passage length of 30 kilometers.
Goa Lava Temple was built in the 11th century. For centuries, it has been a reliable defense against evil spirits.
