Batur volcano
Description:
Batur volcano is located in Indonesia, in the northeastern part of the island of Bali. The main cone of the volcano is crowned by 3 craters, and the highest point reaches 1717 meters above sea level.
Scientists suggest that the formation of a volcano in the area began more than half a million years ago.
Past volcanic activity is evidenced by frozen basaltic rocks left over from lava flows. Some activity is observed at the present time, which is manifested in episodic tremors and ash emissions. The last eruption of the Batur volcano, accompanied by human casualties, occurred in 1963. Lava flows wiped off the face of the earth a small village located nearby.
In 1999-2000, local residents and guests of the island could observe volcanic ash emissions reaching a height of 300 meters. Despite its dangerous nature, Batur volcano is one of the main tourist attractions of the island. From the top of the volcano you can admire the surrounding views and appreciate the power of the natural elements.
