Jl. Katedral No.7B Pasar Baru Sawah Besar Jakarta Pusat DKI Jakarta, Indonesia

Description:

One of the significant attractions of Indonesia is the Assumption Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady in Jakarta. It was built in 1901 in the neo-Gothic style of red brick, covered with plaster and applied patterns.

On either side of the main entrance there are two wide towers with white spires 60 meters high, symbolizing the purity and strength of the Virgin Mary. Six cast iron bells are installed in their upper tiers. At the corners of the towers are high buttresses decorated with stucco. The third spire is located on the east side of the temple, its height is 45 meters. The two-storey church building has the shape of a cross, on the top floor there is a museum of the history of Roman Catholicism in Indonesia. Massive columns decorated with pilasters smoothly pass into high arched vaults.

At the entrance to the temple there is a statue of the Virgin Mary. Above the main altar is a stained glass window of the Mystic Rose, which is a symbol of the Mother of God. The walls of the temple are painted with episodes from the life of saints. Divine services are held in the cathedral, accompanied by the singing of the church choir to the mesmerizing music of the organ.
