James Joyce Tower

6 St Michael's Terrace, Dublin, Co. Dublin

Description:

James Joyce Tower is a museum and one of the attractions associated with the life and work of writer James Joyce. Located 13 miles south of Dublin, Ireland.

The tower was built in 1804 to protect against possible invasion by Napoleonic forces. In 1904, the building began to be leased, and the first tenant was the poet Oliver Gogarty.

At the moment, on two floors there is an exhibition dedicated to James Joyce, who chose the tower as the setting of the first chapter of the novel “Ulysses”. One of the rooms is recreated as described in the book. The collection of the museum contains letters, photographs, personal belongings of writers and rare editions of his works.
