Dansolee Castle
Description:
Dunsoli Castle is the only castle in Ireland to retain its original medieval appearance. It was built in 1450 by Sir Rowland Plunkett, the Chief Justice of the Royal Bench. His family lived in the castle until 1870. The castle is a four-story tower with tapering corner turrets that rise above the parapet. The staircase occupies the northeast tower, and the remaining towers contain vaulted rooms.
In the southwest of the tower is the upper chamber. This room was used as a prison and access to it was through a hole in the vault above it. In ancient times, the castle served as a defensive fortress against foreign invaders. There were guns and the necessary weapons. Now the castle is one of the most visited attractions of the city of Dansoli.
