Malahide Castle

Malahidé, Co. Dublin, Ireland

Description:

Malahide Castle is one of the oldest buildings in Ireland and dates back to the XII century. It was acquired by the knight Richard Talbot in 1185. The castle was the home of the Talbot family for 791 years. The only exception is the period 1649-1660, when Oliver Cromwell granted the castle to Mile Corbet after the Cromwell era.

Corbet was hanged after Cromwell's death and the castle was returned to the Talbot family. During the reign of Edkard IV, the castle was enlarged and the towers were added in 1765. In 1920 important documents were discovered in the castle. They were later sold to an American collector. For many years, the castle has been a landmark of the city of Malahide. Everyone can get acquainted with both the internal and external decoration of the castle at any time.
