Dublin

Dublin International Airport

Description:

The international airport is located ten kilometers north of the center of Dublin in the Collinstown area, and it can only be reached by bus. This is the main air gate of the country. Dublin Airport is the largest airport in Ireland with over twenty million passengers annually. The airport is the headquarters of the main air carrier of Ireland - the company "Aer Lingus", as well as the largest European low-cost airline - Ryanair.

The decision on the need for a new airport was made in 1936, and exactly a year later construction began. On January 19, 1940, the first plane departed from Dublin towards Liverpool. A year later, the airport's first terminal was opened, but with the outbreak of World War II, passenger traffic was practically not performed - only one civilian flight to Liverpool operated. After the end of the war, the airport was modernized, the number of runways increased, and since the 1950s, the volume of traffic has continuously increased.
