Villena: winery, fortress, local cuisine

Description:

Most often, during a short vacation, you want to have time to cover everything at once, get as full of impressions and concentrated forays as possible, so that it is not painfully painful for a day spent outside the beach. This tour is just one of these: it is designed for half a day, and during this time we will have time:

  • visit to the fortress of Villena - a symbol of the city;
  • visit and tasting at the winery;
  • Lunch at an excellent local restaurant, with the chance to sample the region's typical cuisine.

Fortress:

You will clearly see how high the main tower was built by the Muslims, and from what height the Christians continued the construction of the formidable tower, learn a couple of military tricks, hear about the crime for which the city was supposed to change the patron saint, and also get acquainted with the story of the buried lake. In general, the scandals, intrigues, investigations and restoration of the Great Failure – nothing has changed since the Middle Ages!

The visit to the fortress takes 45-60 minutes.

Winehouse

Bright, modern, full of surprises. One of the most beautiful wineries of the province, located among its own vineyards. Unusual architecture, an amazing concept of a club for wine lovers, huge cellars with barrels, a museum of olive oil, a sanctuary of the fondillon - the most expensive of the Alikantian wines, also called "royal", tunnels and squares among wine bottles. You will know everything, you will see it with your own eyes!
The visit ends with a tasting of 4 wines with snacks: bread, its excellent olive oil and cutting from its own production of dried meat - the winery has its own farm. WARNING: If you’re a vegetarian, it’s probably best to take something for snacks with you.

Lunch

In Villena today you can find several excellent restaurants with local cuisine and interiors in the style of the outback. They have different schedules and weekends on different days of the week, so I choose one that fits a specific request for a specific date.
Local cuisine is, first of all, rice (options on the theme of paella, typical local - not with seafood, but with different types of meat), thick soups (go well in winter), in summer there can be cold soup, also a lot of vegetables and, of course, excellent wine.
Lunch in a large tourist city in a tourist-oriented restaurant or in the outback, where locals dine - two big differences, you will see! We'll probably be the only foreigners in this place.
