Treasure of Vilena
Description:
Villena is an Arabian castle and treasure that is over 3,000 years old!!!
Not far from Alicante is the oldest city of Villena.
Already in the Bronze Age, Villena was a major commercial center, as evidenced by the treasures found here – Tesoro de Villena.
This treasure was discovered by accident in 1963 during construction work on a plot of land in the vicinity of the city. In total, 59 items of gold, silver, iron and amber were found - ingots of gold, bracelets, vessels, bowls, buttons, etc. whose age is more than 3000 years.
You can admire the treasures found in the archaeological museum of Villena.
Another attraction of Villena is the Atalaya Castle, built by Muslims in the 12th century.
During the Reconquista period, the city became the center of the seignoria - vast lands located on the border of the provinces of Murcia, Valencia, Alicante, Cuenca and Albacete.
On the tour we will visit: the Archaeological Museum, Atalaya Castle, the city center, the Church of Santiago and a house in a cave.
In the old town, in addition to the archaeological museum, we will visit the Church of Santiago, built in the style of Renaissance Gothic - one of the best examples of this style in the Valencian region and a house in a cave located on the slopes of the mountain. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the poor built caves for living.
We will go to one of these cave houses, decorated in Arabic style, where among the carpets and pillows we will relax, sipping gulls and snacking on dates.
