King Alfonso Thirteen Park

Ingeniero Mira, s/n, 03140 Guardamar del Segura, Alicante, Spain

Description:

REINA SOFIA PARK & PARQUE ALFONSO XIII

In the thirties of the twentieth century, the city was a small fishing village located between the edge of the sea and bare unsightly sand dunes. The mayor of the town appealed to the citizens with a proposal to get rid of mountains of sand on the streets and in the houses, and at the same time to create for themselves and their children a place where it would be pleasant to relax. For many months, several thousand citizens greened and fortified sand dunes, planting thousands of agaves and Mediterranean pines on them. Now these trees have grown to form two magnificent parks - the wild park named after King Alfonso the Thirteenth and the carefully maintained park of Queen Sofia.
