Calle Francisco Alonso, 27, Elda, Alicante, Spain

Description:

Elda Castle is a famous fortress and ancestral nest of the Dynasty de Coloma.

Construction of the castle took place from 1172 to 1243, and after the Reconquista movement Castillo de Elda was ceded to Christians. From the XIII century and for the next century and a half, the castle changed hands, the new owners rebuilt it, fortified the towers and walls. In 1308, inside the fortress was built the first religious building of Christians at that time - the Church of St. Mary.

In 1513, Elda passed to Juan de Colome, who was the secretary of King Ferdinand II. During the XVI century, Elda Castle was a family nest for the Koloma family, and during this period, the military fortress was transformed into a palace. However, the castle is now in ruins, despite constant attempts by the state to restore it.
