Mary Pete Square

Spain, centre of La Coruña

Description:

In the center of La Coruña is a magnificent square surrounded by ancient buildings. The square is named after the national heroine Maria Pit, who defended La Coruña from the British in 1589. During the landing of the British fleet near the local shores, Maria actively participated in the defense of the city. She was able to prevent the British flag from hoisting over the fortress of La Coruña.

On the square there is a monument to Mary, depicting the figure of the heroine during the storming of the city. In addition, the square overlooks the magnificent city council building, made in the neo-renaissance style. Nearby is another Baroque palace. And along the perimeter of the square there are cozy street cafes.
