Park Retiro

Hotel Durval Puerta de Alcal, Calle de Salustiano Olozaga, 28001 Madrid, Spain

Description:

The beautiful and picturesque Retiro Park is located in Madrid between Alcala Street and Mendes y Pelayo Avenue. The park is famous for its size - more than 130 hectares of green space. In the old days, it was the abode of the Spanish monarchs, and it was called Buen Retiro. Unfortunately, after Napoleon’s troops visited Spain, there was nothing left of the palace.

Today, Retiro Park is a favorite place for citizens to relax - there are many cyclists, skateboarders and fans of roller-skating. In addition to the numerous fountains and statues, the main attractions of the park are the Velázquez Palace and the Glass Pavilion. Of particular interest is the Fallen Angel Fountain, the world’s only sculpture depicting Lucifer.
