St. Anne's Square

Plaza de Santa Ana, 28012 Madrid, Spain

Description:

The name of the square is associated with the ancient monastery, which was built in the XVIII century. In 1810, by order of Bonaparte, the monastery was liquidated, and its buildings were dismantled. A fountain was installed in the center of the square, and trees were planted around.

Now St. Anne’s Square has become the center of a vibrant nightlife. There are many nightclubs, restaurants and pubs. One of them was Ernest Hemingway’s favorite meeting place during his visits to Spain. Now in the evenings, thousands of young people gather here to spend their free time having fun and in good company.
