Almudena Cathedral
Almudena Cathedral, Calle de Bail n, 8, 28013 Madrid, Spain
Description:
The huge Cathedral of Santa Maria la Real de la Almudena is located next to the Armory Square of the Royal Palace. The cathedral bears the name of the Virgin Almudena. The construction of the cathedral lasted more than two hundred years and was completed recently, in 1993. The project was created by the architect Marquis Francisco de Cubas, but in 1944 the project was changed by other architects. However, the originally conceived style of pseudo-Gothic was fully maintained - starting with the appearance and ending with interiors.
Inside, the Almudena Cathedral is very bright, the altar is made of green Granadian marble. It is impossible not to note the innovation of the Spanish Church - candles here are not made of wax, but of LED. To light such a candle, you need to dip 20 cents into the coin receiver.
