Plaza de la Encarnaci n
Spain, Seville, Plaza de la Encarnaci n
Description:
Plaza de la Encarnaci n (Plaza de la Encarnación) is a square in the Spanish city of Seville.
The square was recently remodeled by architect Jürgen Mayer’s Metropol Parasol, which won an international idea competition in 2004. The project cost 90 million euros and was very unusual and large-scale.
The building area was about 5000 square meters. The main materials of the building are wood and granite, and granite, steel and concrete were used in the interior. Metropol Parasol, which is located in the heart of the ancient city, should become the new cultural center of the capital of Andalusia. Under the cover of a giant umbrella, there are restaurants, bars, an archaeological museum, a panoramic terrace and even an entire farmer’s market.
The grand opening of this magnificent structure took place on March 28, 2011.
