Tariffs: The End of Europe, the Ocean and the Feeling of Absolute Freedom
Description:
This trip is not just a change of scenery. It's a journey where space feels different, where it breathes deeper, and the horizon seems infinite. To the south there is no Europe, only the ocean, the wind and Africa, which in clear weather can be seen as close as it can be reached by hand.
The road to Tarifa begins with the mountains. We will climb to the Sierra Bermeja area – to a panoramic platform at an altitude of about 1500 meters. It offers some of the most spectacular views of southern Spain: the coast, the Strait of Gibraltar and the Atlantic. This is the moment when the route is just beginning, and the experience is already reaching its peak.
Next we will make a stop in Castellar de la Frontera, a medieval fortress hidden among the hills. This place is often called a “timeless castle”: narrow streets, old stone walls and the feeling that life flows according to different rules. Artists and artisans still live inside the fortress, and the views from the fortress walls are truly cinematic.
On the way to the ocean, take a look at Sotogrande, an elegant yachting port where modern luxury contrasts with the wildlife of the coast. It is a short but revealing stop highlighting the diversity of southern Spain.
And then Tarifa. The southernmost city of continental Europe, the meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. We will walk through the Old Town and the fortress walls, talk about sailors, pirates and trade routes, feel the famous Levante wind, which made Tarifa the world capital of kite and windsurfing. Freedom is especially felt here, not as an idea, but as a physical state.
After Tarifa, the route will continue along the ocean coast to one of Spain’s most impressive archaeological sites, Baelo Claudia. An ancient Roman city built right on the ocean, with a forum, temples, theater and markets. Here history and nature exist together, without fences and fuss.
The final point will be the beach Bolonia and the famous sand dune of Bologna. Huge, lively, constantly changing shape under the influence of the wind, it opens a panorama of the ocean and coast. Here you can go upstairs, feel the power of the wind, breathe in the salty air and complete the journey in a place where nature speaks louder than words.
