piazza Duomo, Amalfi, Italy

Description:

The main attraction of the town of Almafi. The cathedral was built in the IX century in a rather rare Arab-Norman style. Subsequently, it was rebuilt several times and acquired features of Byzantine, Gothic and Baroque styles.

One of the most monumental details of the cathedral is a staircase consisting of 57 steps. It leads to one of the halls of the cathedral, the basilica of the Crucifixion.

The crypt of the cathedral contains the relics of St. Andrew the First-Called, in whose honor the temple was erected. Once a year, they are shown to believers, and the relics flow.

In addition to the relics, the cathedral contains almost museum exhibits - church treasures brought from the crusade to Constantinople. Among them are discos, icons, reliquaries for relics, gold and silver products for worship.
