Tour of Aosta

Description:

Aosta Valley. One of the 20 regions of Italy, like any other region in its own unique and beautiful.

By size, the Aosta Valley is the smallest region in the country. The official languages are Italian and French. In the valley of Gresonney, where a small original people of the Walzer, who came to the Valley from Germany many years ago and carefully preserve their traditions, speak German.

Surrounded by the largest mountain ranges and peaks – the Monte Ros Massive, the Great and Small Sanbernard and the Mont Blanc – the valley became a unique artery leading from France to Italy (to the plain of Gran Padana).

The history of the Valley begins in the prehistoric period, when the Alpine tribes of Salassi lived on its territory. Saw the Valley and the Roman invasion and campaign of Napoleon Bonaparte. The valley still retains its importance as one of the main Italian regions in terms of the number of ancient Roman ruins located here.

Unique medieval ambiance - more than 100 castles, towers and forts, carefully preserved and restored by the regional authorities. A favorite place for the summer pastime of representatives of the Savoy dynasty of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The castle is filled with hunting trophies of the King of the Hunt Victor Emanuel II, as well as the castles of other famous representatives of Savoi maintained in excellent condition.

For today’s tourists, the Valley of Aosta is classic ski resorts, free-ride and ski mountaineering, rich cultural and historical heritage, a huge number of hiking mountain routes and, of course, gastronomy – cheeses made from milk from the purest alpine meadows, Waldostan cuisine and wine.
