Matera is an eastern city in southern Italy. And this color was acquired in the 8th century thanks to the huge number of Christians who arrived from Malaysian Byzantium during the iconoclastic persecution. This southern Italian pearl is more like a rock capadocia or one of the cave towns of the Middle East.
The city is located in the province of Basilicata. Since 1993, UNESCO has declared Matera, its old town of Sassi, a world heritage worth preserving for posterity.
Matera is called Italian Jerusalem, it was here that many films about the life of Jesus Christ were filmed, in particular, Mel Gibson chose this place for the filming of the film The Passion of the Christ.
