Cathedral
Description:
The cathedral in Otranto was built on the site of an early Christian church in an ancient Roman village. Such a concentration of different cultural and religious traditions could not leave a trace on the further buildings of the city.
The harmonious combination of various architectural styles of the cathedral, a unique mosaic floor made of multi-colored smalt, richly decorated wooden ceilings bear the features of both Byzantine and early Christian, Romanesque trends. The main nave of the cathedral is framed by granite columns topped with capitals. Through the flights of stairs you can get into the crypt, inside which there are also numerous columns of different types of marble.
