Trani Cathedral
Piazza Duomo 76125 Trani BT, Italy
Description:
The concentration of the best traditions of Romanesque architecture is the Cathedral of Trani, located on the Adriatic coast. The picturesque landscape of the sea coast, the white-stone buildings of the city and the majestic cathedral represent the harmony of the beauty of nature and the skillful skill of man.
According to legend, after the death of a pilgrim from Greece, his relics began to work miracles. It was decided to build a cathedral in honor of St. Nicholas just on the site of the church in which he died. The location was unusual for the construction of a holy monastery at that time. The cathedral was at a distance from the main city building in insufficient accessibility for parishioners - near the coast.
The cathedral is perfectly visible from the sea. The first impression of the city among travelers is one – the cathedral, which is decorated with relief and carved ornaments, unique mosaic patterns.
