Trani Castle
Piazza Manfredi Re, 16, 70059 Trani Bari, Italy
Description:
Trani Castle is located in southern Italy in the province of Bari. The vicissitudes of history made several adjustments to his fate. The initial construction of the castle dates back to the reign of Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor. It was at that time that defensive walls and watchtowers were built. Subsequently, due to the development of firearms, the castle needed to be rebuilt to strengthen its fortress walls, blocking enemy attacks.
From the middle of XIX to the beginning of XX century Trani Castle appeared in a new form – its premises began to be used as a city prison. Today, in the long-suffering fate of a magnificent architectural masterpiece, there is no more drama. After extensive restoration work, it became the center of cultural events held in the Puglia region. Art competitions and exhibitions of paintings gather a considerable number of art lovers.
