New Town Hall
Palazzo Nuovo, Old Square, Bergamo, Italy
Description:
The New Town Hall is located on the Old Square of Bergamo, it was built at the beginning of the XVII century by the project of the Italian architect Vincenzo Scamozzi. The architectural style of the building impresses with a combination of scale and sophistication, so characteristic of the Baroque era: a portal surrounded by Doric columns, an elegant balustrade, as well as arches crowned with elegant sculptures. As befits an old building, the New Town Hall has undergone several restorations over the years of its life. For example, in 1928 Ernesto Porovano finished the facade with white marble, and in 1958 the final touch was a new six statues at the facade. The interior of the New Town Hall is decorated with frescoes by Pietro Baskenis.
