Bologna Towers

Galleria del Leone, 1, 40125 Bologna, Italy

Description:

In the 10th century, Bologna was a prosperous city, both historically and economically. At this wonderful time, the people of Bologna had a lot of money, but very little space for construction. This question was solved very simply - if you can not build in breadth, you can build up. Thus began the construction of numerous towers, which will go down in history as Bologna. Over the years, more than 200 ancestors of future skyscrapers have grown in Bologna. It became excitement and a kind of competition - after all, the one who has the tallest tower is the richest and most influential.

The most famous confrontation occurred between the Azinelli and Garisendi families, who built their towers a few meters apart. But it ended in a mutual defeat - the towers skewed. To this day, the Azinelli Tower has been preserved in full size - 97 meters. No one will say what height Garizendi Tower was: only its 48-meter part has survived to us.
