Maggiore Square
Description:
Maggiore Square can be called the “pulsating heart” of the city – it is the center of both urban and religious life of Bologna. Here is the famous fountain of Neptune, and surround the square the most important buildings in the city since the Middle Ages: in the west – Palazzo Comunale, in the east – Palazzo dei Banki, in the south – the impressive Basilica of St. Petronius, opposite which is the elegant Palazzo del Podesta. Tourists begin to explore the city from this square, but students of the University of Bologna treat the square with prejudice and believe that you should never cross it in the center, but only bypass the perimeter, otherwise you can say goodbye to the dream of a diploma.
