One day away from the Medici
Description:
Who hasn’t dreamed of being a guest of the Medici family? During this thematic tour you will be opened the door of their Palace, their Cathedral, their Pantheon. You will also see exquisite masterpieces of art.
We offer a visit to the Medici area, including the Medici Palace, St. Lawrence Cathedral (San Lorenzo) and the Medici Chapel.
The Medici Palace was the residence of a powerful family of Florentine bankers from the 15th to the 17th century. Here lived, worked, died Cosimo Father of the Fatherland, Lorenzo the Magnificent, the future Pope Leo X, the first Duke of Florence Cosimo, the future Queen of France Catherine. Here the Medici preserved the largest collection of Renaissance art. There were and worked Botticelli, Donatello, Michelangelo, Pico della Mirandola, Marsilio Ficino, Girolamo Savonarola. The Medici Palace served as the cradle of the Renaissance and you can still feel this power walking through its rooms and courtyards.
The Cathedral of San Lorenzo is the very first Christian temple of Florence and the very first Renaissance cathedral, the work of the architect Brunelleschi. The Medici commissioned a complete transformation of the cathedral in the early 15th century and is still Florence's second most important cathedral. Inside you can admire the masterpieces of sculpture and painting of different eras and styles. The harmony of all parts of this building will amaze you.
The Medici Chapels are the Pantheon of the family. Under the great, brick dome (the second highest) are buried all the Medici from first to last without exception. The Medici perpetuated themselves in a very wise way: they used the services of great artists, such as Michelangelo, and used eternal materials, i.e. marble and semi-precious stones. The result is amazing and leaves a breath!
