The Church of Santa Croce (Church of the Holy Cross) is another unique architectural and artistic monument located in the heart of the city. This temple of Florence preserves the richest works of art. The Gothic church of Santa Croce, one of the largest in the city, is also the largest Franciscan temple in Italy. Its architect was Arnolfo di Cambio, who laid the first stone in the foundation in 1294. (c)
