Medici Riccardi Palace
Via Camillo Cavour 3, 50129 Florence, Italy
Description:
The Medici Family Palace, better known as the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, is Florence’s first secular three-tiered Early Renaissance building. Built by the architect Michelozzo, the palazzo is now used for prefecture meetings and is also home to the Ricardian Library.
Walking one block from Duomo Square, you can see a powerful building, the first floor of which is made from a rough rust, and the next two from smoother stone slabs. Behind the wide walls there is a cozy courtyard lined with lemon trees, with many extraordinary sculptures. Each room in the palace should be viewed with special attention, but one of them is most impressive – the Chapel of the Magi, which is decorated with a fresco by Benozzo Gozzoli “The Procession of the Magi to Bethlehem”. It is easy to recognize the owners of the house and public figures who visited the city as part of the 1439 Florence Cathedral.
The Medici Palace is open every day except Wednesday, from 9.00 to 19. 00, last visitors can enter at 18:30. The full cost of the ticket is 7 euros, preferential - 4 euros.
