Boboli Gardens
Viale della Meridiana, 50125 Firenze, Italy
Description:
Boboli Gardens is the most famous park in Florence and one of the best examples of park art of the Italian Renaissance.
The gardens were opened to the public in 1766.
They are located on the hill of Boboli, behind the Palazzo Pitti – the former residence of the Florentine dukes of the Medici.
The Boboli Gardens were founded in 1550 by order of Eleanor of Toledo, wife of Duke Cosimo I of Medici, and were designed by architect Niccolo Pericoli.
Currently, the park covers an area of 4.5 hectares.
Boboli is a museum of garden sculptures in the open air, where works of ancient art and statues of the 16th and 17th centuries are displayed. The park is divided by long axial and wide gravel paths, decorated with decorative stone elements, magnificent sculptures and fountains.
