Monument to Dante Alighieri
Description:
One of the main attractions of Florence is the monument to Dante Alighieri, located in the center of Piazza della Signoria. The great master of the pen is depicted in full growth, he is dressed in a light long cloak, which he holds with his left hand. In his right hand, Dante holds a book, possibly his famous work called The Divine Comedy. On the head of the creator is a laurel wreath, and a thoughtful look is directed to the side. The monument was erected in 1865 on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the poet. It was built on a high two-tier pedestal made of pure marble.
Near the monument there is a cafe, which bears the name of Dante Alighieri, as well as a small cozy square, equipped with comfortable benches and a fountain. In 1905, the monument was vandalized, in 1907 it was completely restored. Currently, it continues to please guests and residents of the city, most of whom cannot pass the monument without taking a photo with it.
