The sculpture of Perseus, who defeated the Gorgon, was made by the Italian sculptor Benvenuto Cellini, who created it in the XVI century for Duke Cosimo Medici. This work is the most famous work of Cellini as a sculptor.
Perseus is depicted as a young man holding a severed jellyfish head in his hands, and his face looks at the body under his feet. The right hand holding the sword is pulled back. On the pedestal there are 4 sculptures, under each of which there is a text, and at the corners of the pedestal there are 4 heads of goats. Under the pedestal is a relief that depicts the liberation of Perseus Andromeda. The meaning of the sculpture is the victory of the Medici power over the republic.
