The statue of Golubka

There are many interesting monuments in Florence, but the most unusual of them, perhaps, is the sculpture of the Colombian artist Fernando Botero - "Dove". It is located near Amerigo Vespuchi Airport. The sculptor gave it to the city in 1933, and since then it has become as much a symbol of Florence as the Uffizi Gallery or David.

The bronze statue stands on a white marble pedestal and meets all visitors. You will definitely see it because it is located on the lawn in the middle of the road junction. The dove is made in the classical style of Colombian sculptors, it is now used only in Tuscany. Its approximate weight is 1500 kg and a height of 235 cm.

In 1999, the statue was removed from its place near the airport for the exhibition at Piazza della Signoria, after which it was exhibited at the Piazzale degli Ufizi. At the end of all activities, she was sent for polishing and cleaning. In 2000, it was located in its rightful place.
