Dolceacqua - a delightful medieval town
Description:
Dolceacqua (“clean water”) is a delightful medieval town, home to one of Italy’s most recognized and famous red wines. Rossese, the favorite drink of Napoleon and Pope Julius III. This village is located on the mountain slopes, with the ruins of Doria Castle towering above it. Moreover, it resembles one of the traditional Ligurian prezes (Christmas decorations). A picturesque medieval town with narrow stone streets and tall houses. Doria Castle was built in the 11th century and was the property of the Doria family. The castle was badly damaged after the earthquake in 1887, but is still visited. The top of the elegance here is the old Ponte Vecchio bridge, which divides the Nervia river two quarters of the city of Terra and Borgo. The bridge is a simple gable arch, built in the 15th century. In the crypt of the church of San Giorgio (13th century) is the tomb of the Doria family. This is a beautiful city and it is worth a visit!!
