Genoa - historical centre
Description:
The historic center of Genoa is one of the largest medieval centers in Europe. For many centuries, the capital of Liguria, Genoa Gordai, was a commercial and political center. This is a charming city with many historical monuments located in a picturesque area. Founded by the sea around Porto Antico (the old port), the city could only grow towards the mainland. The labyrinth of narrow medieval streets of carruja, small squares, stairs in their narrow space hide the thousand-year history of the city. There are numerous palaces (which Genoa owes its name to the “city of palaces”), which served in the past as the residence of noble and influential Genoese families, whose owners were in turn obliged to receive visiting high guests. 42 palaces were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2006. Passing through the city there are numerous well-preserved temples of different periods, representing a unique artistic heritage. This city evokes feelings of admiration, amazement, affection for those who seek deep knowledge.
