Square de Ferrari

Piazza Raffaele de Ferrari, 16121 Genova, Italy

Description:

Square de Ferrari is the main square of Genoa, the center of urban and tourist life. Named in 1887 after banker and philanthropist Rafaele de Ferrari, it stands surrounded by numerous architectural and historical monuments. All transport routes of the city lead to the square, there are holidays, demonstrations and folk festivals.

Square de Ferrari is a meeting place of different eras and styles, a place that can tell about the history of the city many interesting facts. The Doge’s Palace facing the square – a beautiful monument of Italian Gothic – will take us to the Middle Ages. This building from the moment of its construction served as the residence of the heads of the republic - the Doge. Today it is a museum that tells the long history of the rulers of the city.

The building of the Ligurian Academy of Fine Arts will plunge us into the early XIX century. Built in 1825, it became a place of learning for many famous artists. Here, among others, unsurpassed masters of Genoese filigree were trained.

And, as a solemn point, the center of the square is crowned by a magnificent fountain, working all year round. Numerous jets of water directed to its middle create a pedestal for a powerful water column, rising several tens of meters.
