Description:

This city near present-day Naples gained posthumous fame after the most famous volcanic eruption in history. A terrible natural disaster lasted for a day the force of the elements was such that volcanic ash flew to Egypt and Syria.

More than a thousand and a half years, the sad place was bypassed. And in the 18th century, archaeologists began excavations and found that under the layers of frozen ash preserved a huge monument of life and culture of the Roman Empire. Almost in its original form, pagan temples, forums with colonnades, theaters, residential buildings were excavated. Colored frescoes can be seen on the walls of buildings, and numerous household items have been preserved inside residential buildings. During their lifetime, Pompeii was a rich and prosperous city, and left many monuments of Roman art and culture to descendants. By the way, the images on Pompeii frescoes clearly reflect the frivolous mores of those times: many of their plots are openly erotic in nature.

The easiest way to get to the city, which has long been transformed into a giant open-air museum, is from Naples or Sorrento. Admission ticket will cost adults about 11 euros.
