On marble quarries in a jeep

Do you want to experience strong emotions? A jeep ride through the marble mountains? From a bird's-eye view, you can feel immense space and freedom.

Imagine how Michelangelo, alone, exhausted by the sun and blinded by marble dust, with his hands wounded by fragments of stone, himself looking like a living statue, dreamed of turning the whole mountain into one single statue. Of course, only He could see the future David, Moses, a dying slave, or the Madonna in the lump, but you have the opportunity to play your imagination.

After our meeting, we will go to the mountain slopes of Tuscano - Emilian Appenin, through the town of Carrara, climbing up amid the dazzling whiteness with small shining crystals of quartzite mountains. On the road where the filming of the latest film “Quantum of Mercy” took place, imagining James Bond racing along the white road from the marble crumb.

At the top of one of the mountains, we will find ourselves in the middle of active quarries, where you will learn about the modern technique of extraction of this valuable material and the life of stonemasons.

Located in the tiny settlement of Kollonata, in those distant times, the refuge of workers and Michelangelo Bonarotti himself, known not for its history, but for lard “lardo di Colonnata”, is a vital product for residents in the harsh Appuans. We will look into the laboratory for the production of this gastronomic delicacy and give pleasure to taste wine and peasant bread.

At your request, we will be able to visit the museum created by the old stonecutter Walter Danesi, who, thanks to the collected household items, told the difficult existence of stoneworkers, sometimes impossible work and dangerous transportation of stone.

In memory of the stone country in the local shop you can buy souvenirs from this snow-white and colored marble. Few people make it to this place, but those who have made it remain in awe!
