Tour of Mantua, Ducal Palace and Te Palace

The tour is divided into two parts:

Morning: Ducal Palace with Newlyweds Room, historic centre

Lunch time (without a guide) for 1.30 hours at a local restaurant/tractory

Noon: Bibien Theatre, Te Palace

Excursion program: a full sightseeing tour with a visit to all the main attractions of Mantua; during this tour we will visit the Ducal Palace with the Newlywed Room, go to the Cathedral and the Cathedral Basilica of St. Andrea, visit the ancient Church of St. Lawrence, as well as the Bibien Theatre and the Te Palace.

A brief description of the Te Palace, a Renaissance masterpiece created by Giulio Romano.

Te Palace

The Te Palace was built between 1524-1534 and is an undeniable masterpiece of Mannerism. Te Palace is one of the most famous masterpieces of Renaissance architecture, Italian architect and painter Giulio Romano, a favorite pupil of Raphael Santi.

Te Palace was built by Federico II Gonzaga, Marquis of Mantua, son of Isabella d'Este and Marquis Francesco II Gonzaga, in honor of his beloved Isabella Boschetti.

Te Palace is a wonderful country villa, created for entertainment and reception of important guests at the court of Gonzaga, as well as for training the famous Gonzaga horses of a valuable race.

Inside the villa, you can admire the Amor and Psyche Room, the Giant Room and the Horse Hall. These rooms were painted with wonderful frescoes, in one of which Giulio Romano left his immutable mark.

The Te Palace, in past centuries, was called the "sanctuary of Venus", where the most beautiful and insidious goddess of the Greek Olympus will appear on the frescoes as the main character. Venus is the personification of such natural values as beauty, spring, love, eros and fertility. Slowly strolling among the frescoes of the Te Palace, Venus can be recognized in the image of various mythological characters.

The Te Palace was characterized primarily as the Palace of Myths, on the walls of which, following the Greek and Latin tradition, numerous myths and pagan gods and goddesses were depicted. When visiting the Te Palace, you will be surrounded by magnificent architecture, rich scenery and ornaments, which fill all ceilings and walls.

Te Palace is a faceted diamond of Mantua, which undoubtedly deserves your attention and will be a bright and unexpected surprise for you.
