Velaska Tower
Piazza Velasca 5, Milan, Italy
Description:
The Velasca Tower is one of the most famous Italian skyscrapers, attracting everyone’s attention with its unusual architecture. But despite the controversial design, this tall building is considered one of Milan’s most recognizable symbols.
The construction of the Velásca Tower was completed in 1958. The authors of the skyscraper were four architects at once, and this skyscraper was considered one of the most advanced architectural projects of its time. The hundred-meter tower is clearly divided into two halves - the lower part is reserved for offices, and the upper part - for residential apartments. At the same time, the inhabited section of the building is slightly larger than the office one - as a result, the building resembles a mushroom.
The design of the facade is also very unusual - the authors were inspired by industrial architecture, and also tried to copy the design of ancient fortresses and fortifications, as a result, the building turned out to be very gloomy and ugly. Velasca Tower regularly gets into all sorts of lists of "the most ugly buildings", but this does not affect the popularity among tourists.
