San Babila Church
Corso Monforte, 2, Milano, Italy 27m Yu
Description:
The Italian church of St. Babylon is better known as San Babila. The church was built in 1095 on the foundations of another, earlier church (it was built in the fifth century specifically to store the relics of Saints Babylon of Antioch and Roman of Caesarea).
The church of San Babila acquired its present appearance at the end of the nineteenth century. Then a large-scale reconstruction was carried out, during which the facade and bell tower of the church were changed (the original collapsed in the 16th century).
On the way to the church of San Babila you can see a column with a lion. During the Roman Empire, this lion adorned the eastern gate of Milan, which stood on this very spot.
