Description:

The Catholic Church of San Giorgio al Palazzo was founded in 750. It is located in the historic center of Milan. The Baroque building is a decoration of the city.

The church was built by Archbishop Natalis on the ancient ruins of the imperial palace, which was built under Diocletian. In the XII century, the temple began to be rebuilt, and the final result was obtained by the middle of the XVIII century. The building was modernized in 1623, when it was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style by architect Francesco Maria Rikini.

The main feature of the church of San Giorgio al Palazzo is the chapel of Passion with panels and frescoes by Bernardino Luini from 1516 in the third chapel. Initially, the artist planned to paint all the free walls with the plot “The Passion of the Christ”, but Luini did not find a common language with the rector of the temple. Also in the church there is an organ issued in the twenties of the XX century by the famous organ company Balbiani.
