Church of San Vincenzo in Prato

Via Daniele Crespi, 9, 20123 Milano, Italy

Description:

The Church of San Vincenzo in Prato is the only building of early Christianity in Milan that has retained its original appearance. The basilica is located right behind the historical wall, which in ancient times surrounded the city.

The first church on this site was built in 770 by the Lombard king Desiderius, who dedicated the temple to the Virgin Mary. Later, the relics of St. Vincent of Saragossa were buried here. The temple is built on an area of 40 by 20 meters.

The interior of the church is 3 elongated rooms with a wooden ceiling, separated by arches on the vault. Inside the temple on the walls preserved ancient paintings. The facade is made in simple brickwork and decorated with several compositions from hanging arches, and antique sculptures are located on the sides of the building.
